Governments solar taskforce
Will it survive the election?

Will the Government’s solar taskforce survive the election? NerG certainly hope so!
NerG were excited 6 weeks ago when the Government’s new “Solar taskforce” met to discuss the UK’s ambition for solar, including reaching 70GW solar power by 2035. The targets include creating more jobs and improving grid support as well as cutting costs of installation.
In particular, the taskforce wants to drive rooftop solar alongside ground-mounted arrays, as with an estimated 250,000 hectares of south-facing commercial roof space available in the UK, leveraging this unused space could meet up to 50% of the country’s electricity demands.
We couldn’t agree more with this direction. We have an abundance of suitable rooftops for solar PV and it can bring businesses significant benefits. As well as significant cost savings & a return on investment from as little as 2.5 years, it provides companies with increased resilience to future energy price fluctuations.
NerG is just hoping that once this week’s chaos has settled down, the Solar Taskforce continues and we look forward to seeing a “Solar Roadmap” for the UK.
We’ll keep you updated when we hear more!
