Battery Storage Lincolnshire

Low Maintenance

Solar panels require little maintenance and will only need cleaning periodically to maintain the high levels of energy production.

Battery Storage Lincolnshire

Combine with technology

Solar PV can be linked with our heat pumps to provide the electricity to provide cooling and heating through heat pump systems.

Battery Storage Lincolnshire

Battery Storage

Battery storage systems can be installed, if you are likely to produce excess solar, that will store this excess and then disperse this energy when the solar is not generating electricity, creating extra efficiency and savings.

Frequently Asked Questions

Commercial Solar PV

Do Commercial Solar Panels only generate energy with direct sunlight?

Solar Panels can generate energy from both direct sunlight and indirect or diffused sunlight. While they are most efficient when exposed to direct sunlight, they can still produce electricity on cloudy or overcast days because they can capture and convert diffuse sunlight into electricity.

However, the energy output is generally lower under such conditions compared to bright, sunny days. So, while direct sunlight is ideal for maximum energy production, Solar Panels are still useful in various lighting conditions.

What is the lifesapn of a solar array?

The lifespan of a solar array typically ranges from 25 to 30 years, or more. Most Solar Panel manufacturers provide warranties for this duration. However, it’s essential to note that the actual lifespan can vary depending on various factors, including the quality of the Solar Panels, the local climate and weather conditions, and how well the system is maintained.

After the initial 25-30 year period, Solar Panels don’t suddenly stop working, but their efficiency gradually decreases. Many Solar Panels continue to produce electricity at reduced rates for several more years. In some cases, older panels might still be operational for up to 40 years or longer, though their efficiency may have significantly declined. Proper Solar Panel maintenance and monitoring can help extend the lifespan and maximize the return on investment for a solar array.

Will Solar PV power my building when there is a power cut?

Solar Panels alone cannot power your building during a power outage. As soon as the grid power disappears, the inverters will shut down as they synchronise the power they generate with the grid.

There are exceptions if a battery system has been fitted, however, a system which isolates the grid from the PV system must be integrated in order that the PV system cannot back feed the grid.

What is the process for going solar for my business?

In the first instance we will have telephone conversation with you and check your building or ground area using Google Maps.

It is then critical that we look at your energy consumption so that the right sized Solar PV system can be proposed. The more information we have at this stage, the better.

Ideally, we look at your half hour data (if you have it) and anlalyse your energy usage.

If you like the feasibility, then we will come out and have a chat, we will look at the roof, access and location of your electrics.

From here, we can provide you with a quotation.

If you are happy, we can apply to the grid, and to the local authority for planning permission.

Once we receive these approvals, we will need to assess the strength of the building. Assuming all permissions are in place we will then agree a time plan to come and install Solar PV system for your business.

Post installation, we notify the grid that all work has been completed and issue a handover pack which contains all the relevant certification.

What servicing is required on a Solar PV array?

Regular maintenance for a Solar PV array includes cleaning the panels, visual inspections for damage, checking electrical connections, inverter maintenance, monitoring system usage, and addressing shading issues or pest control.

Periodic professional inspections are advisable for optimal performance and longevity.

Is there funding available for Commercial Solar PV

Unfortunately, the only nationwide funding that we know of for commercial PV installs in Lincolnshire is for fitting onto calf rearing sheds with a DEFRA funded grant. However, the cost of electricity means that typical payback for an installation on a roof for a company that self-consumes the majority of the produced power will be in the region of 3.5 years.

What types of roofs are compatible for Solar PV?

The easiest roofs to install on are the metal clad roofs. We can also install on fibre cement or tiled roofs, but these take additional time and require additional safety equipment such as fall arrest nets to be installed.

Is Solar technology changing, and should I wait to invest?

Solar technology is changing, but slowly and the gains are becoming more marginal. One of the bigger changes is the size of the panels. Larger panels mean that the install time can be reduced.

For ground mounted systems, panels are available that are bifacial. These absorb the light that is reflected from the ground and can therefore increase output.

How much energy would Solar array generate for my business on average?

1kWp of Solar Panels (2 large panels), will produce around 833 kW of electrical energy in a year if they are fitted facing due south and on a roof with a slope of 20 degrees. The direction and angle can have a large effect on the annual output.

We will typically analyse your data to see when you are using the power. If for example you use more power in the morning than the evening, then we might orient your array slightly towards the east.

What sized Solar PV system does my company need?

That is determined entirely by your consumption. For larger sites, the existing site meters will typically be recording the energy used by the site every half hour. This data gets aggregated into one huge spreadsheet with 365 days and 48 half hours per day.

We analyse this spreadsheet to work out the number of panels that will provide you with the best possible return on your capital.

What are the costs of a Solar PV system?

  • System Size, Location: The geographical location of the installation site affects the cost due to differences in solar irradiance, climate, and local regulations. Regions with more sunlight typically yield better returns on investment.
  • Type of Solar Panels: The choice of solar panels can influence costs. High-efficiency panels tend to be more expensive but can generate more power in a smaller area.
  • Inverter Type: Some inverters are more expensive but offer better system performance and monitoring.
  • Mounting and Racking: The mounting system, which secures the panels to the roof or ground, can vary in cost based on materials and design. Ground-mounted Solar PV systems are typically more expensive than roof-mounted Solar PV systems.
  • Permits and Regulations: Permitting and regulatory requirements can add to the cost.
  • Electricity Rates: The cost of electricity from the grid has a huge affect the return on investment. Higher electricity rates make solar significantly more economically attractive.
  • Financing and Incentives: The method of financing and available incentives, such as tax credits, rebates, and net metering, can impact the upfront cost and long-term savings.
  • Quality of Components: The quality and brand of solar panels, inverters, and other system components can influence the cost. Premium components may have a higher upfront cost but could provide better performance and durability.
  • Warranty and Maintenance: The length and terms of warranties for Solar Panels and inverters can affect costs. Systems with longer warranties may be more expensive but offer more protection.

What are the benefits of Solar PV?

  • Clean & Renewable: Solar energy is clean and renewable, reducing environmental impact.
  • Lower Bills: Solar Panels cut energy costs, offering long-term savings.
  • ROI: Solar systems provide a favorable return on investment.
  • Environmental Impact: Reduces emissions and air pollution.
  • Energy Independence: Solar PV system enhances energy security and reduces outages.
  • Low Maintenance: Minimal upkeep and long lifespan.
  • Scalable: Solar Panels can be sized for various energy needs.

Why do you need an inverter?

In a photovoltaic (PV) solar system, an inverter is essential because it converts the direct current (DC) electricity generated by Solar Panels into the alternating current (AC) electricity used in homes and businesses.

It also optimizes power output, ensures grid compatibility, and provides safety features. Inverters are crucial for efficient energy conversion and grid connection.

Are batteries a worthwhile investment?

Batteries for commercial Solar PV systems can be worthwhile if you want to reduce demand charges or time-of-use rates, and aim to maximize solar energy use. However, it is important to analyse the costs versus the payback.

Systems which charge once in a day will typically have quite a long payback.
